![]() The case for this edition of the series is more solid than I expected, and while the inside lacks bells and whistles, the DVD trays staggered and strong enough that I don't worry I'll break the little tabs that the DVDs hold onto. The colors of the show play nicely with software that adjusts the levels and color temp of your screen, too. Once I did that, the picture looked great on my monitor. If you watch these on your desktop/laptop, make sure to find your player's "de-interlace" setting and turn it on, or there will be huge black scanlines mucking up the picture. The format of blending music mini-videos into the narrative is clever, and while the songs may not be particularly well-crafted, they move the story forward, and I catch myself humming them from time to time. The animation is typical Sunbow crank-it-out jank most of the time, but the art direction of the characters is surprisingly varied and interesting. ![]() Watching Jem now is delightful for entirely different reasons-the goofy 80s plots, the Misfits' zero impulse control, and Jem and her sisters are sweet and earnest. Nostalgia is a thing, and it certainly is a factor, but I only watched a couple episodes back when they aired.
